Program Information

The Health Science Associate in Science (AS) degree at Columbia Basin College (CBC) is a comprehensive program designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field. The degree prepares students for entry-level work in the healthcare field and/or matriculation into a higher-level health science program. Students can also choose to complete entry-level healthcare certificates in sterile processing technician, emergency medical technician (EMT), nursing assistant, phlebotomy, or Spanish medical interpreter within the degree.

The program includes coursework in statistics, biological sciences, anatomy & physiology, chemistry, English, communication, and psychology. These prerequisite courses are required for application to a healthcare program at CBC or another institution. In addition, major support courses will allow students to gain experience in an entry-level healthcare field, providing practical and hands-on training to ensure students are well prepared for their future careers.

Graduates of the program can expect to be competitive for a wide range of entry-level healthcare positions in the Benton and Franklin Counties area of WA State. This area has a high demand for healthcare professionals, and the degree is designed to meet this demand by providing graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge required to succeed in the field. The program also meets application/eligibility requirements for CBC's own bachelor of applied science in community health and bachelor of applied management with emphasis in health administration programs.

Upon completion of the program, students can pursue a wide range of healthcare positions. In addition, special areas of emphasis are available in Substance Use Disorder Counseling and Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary.
