CBC will be closed in observance of Juneteenth.
This year, for the first time, Washington state recognizes Juneteenth as an official, state holiday. Juneteenth is inspired by June 19, 1865, when the news of freedom reached enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, weeks after Confederate surrender ended the Civil War. Shortly after our state embraced Juneteenth as a state holiday, it became a federal holiday, the first new federal holiday since the creation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983. The Washington State Legislature has now funded Juneteenth as a paid holiday for those public employees who are normally eligible for paid holidays.
This year, since the Juneteenth holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday will be officially recognized for CBC employees on Monday, June 20. CBC’s campuses will be closed to the public.
