Login Procedures
CBC students, faculty and staff may access the library's subscription databases off campus by logging into the CBC website using their CBC ID and PIN. If you are already logged in you will see your name in the upper left corner of the page - simply navigate to our list of databases and select one and you should be logged through. If you are not logged in you will be prompted to do so when you click on one of our subscription databases off-campus.
Troubleshooting
On rare occasions, patrons have difficulty accessing our databases. Please check the following:
Forgotten Login Information
CBC students have two options for ID/PIN retrieval. Faculty and staff will need to contact Human Resources.
Linking
You must login to most of our databases and online resources through the CBC Library’s resources page or our homepage; if you try to access one of the databases through any other links you won't be recognized as a CBC user and will typically be asked for additional login information that you won't have.
Firewalls
When you click on one of our databases, if you get a blank page, "page not found," or "cannot find server" message, you may be behind a firewall that is blocking our proxy server. To test this, point your browser directly to our login page: http://libaccess.columbiabasin.edu:2048/login. If it doesn't come up, chances are your firewall is blocking it. To get around this you can either turn off your firewall temporarily or configure it to allow access to port 2048, at least for our proxy server.
Blocked Redirect
Some security software and/or browser settings may prevent you from being redirected from the CBC website through to our databases. For instance, Firefox has a setting that will produce the message "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" forcing you to click the 'allow' button in the warning each time. In Firefox if you wish to stop this go to Options>Advanced>General and uncheck "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page." With other software search the help on website redirects (or Google the topic) and you may be able to determine how to prevent this. If you are entirely unable to resolve this problem see the 'alternate password access' section below.
Alternate Password
Login to Angel and you will find a page providing an alternate password and links in the "CBC Library Research" section listed under 'Courses' on your Angel Homepage - after entering the course page click on the content tab. Be sure you are using the current quarter password. The password incorporates the first three letters of the quarter at some point (as fal, win, spr, sum). In order to use that password you must access our databases through Angel. If you are a current student, faculty, or staff member and cannot access this course in Angel please contact us.
General
Try hitting the Refresh button on your browser, exiting the browser and starting over, or using a different browser. This is especially true if you are using the AOL integrated browser - close the browser but not your internet connection and launch Internet Explorer; or if you are using Internet Explorer, try using Netscape.
Cookies
If you get an error message that starts 'This is cookie.htm' your browser has blocked a cookie from our login server. Be sure to disable any cookie blocking software you may have running. You must set your browser to accept at least some cookies (review your browser's help files for instructions).
Temporary Files
Another thing to try is deleting temporary Internet files and cookies already stored on your computer (review your browser's help files for instructions).
Other
Problems with NetZero High Speed.
If you have logged in successfully but the database will not let you in, you may be trying to access one of our databases that have a limit on the number of users or the database may be down - try again later, or select a different database.
Ebrary no longer uses our regular login; instead you will be asked for your student ID number which it will use to create a personalized account for you.
If you continue to have problems please call the CBC Library Reference desk for assistance, 509-542-4890 . If you have never used our databases off campus before, you may wish to ask for a demonstration in the library.
