Assess the seriousness of the injury
Is it life threatening? Does it have the potential of being life threatening? Does it require emergency hospital treatment?
Serious injuries
Dial 911 for ambulance. Notify CBC Security at ext. 2219 or ext. 2333 from campus phones, 542-4819 or 542-5533 from cell phones. On weekend or weekdays after 4 p.m., call 521-4599. At Richland campus, call 531-4034.
Non-serious injuries
The individual should be escorted to the division office, where the individual may request one of the following:
- An ambulance for transport (at the individual’s expense).
- A family member or friend be contacted to transport the individual.
- The injured person can find an alternative means of transportation, but should be instructed not to operate a motor vehicle until examined by a doctor.
- CBC faculty and staff should not solicit or direct any student or staff member to transport an injured person at any time.
- CBC faculty and staff should include the name and addresses of any witnesses on the Accident Report Form, which should be completed and submitted to CBC Security within 24 hours.
Medical Incident
When an individual becomes ill or incapacitated due to a medical or physical condition not related to an on-campus accident or injury, this shall be considered a medical incident – not an accident. A medical incident should be handled in the same manner as above. If an injury occurs due to a medical incident, then an
Accident Report Form should be completed and submitted to CBC Security within 24 hours.
