It may not have been for the trophy they had hoped, but the
Columbia Basin College women capped their season with a sterling effort.
Kelsey
Yenney hit 8 of 9 shots and scored 20 points to lead the Hawks to a
71-56 win over Southwestern Oregon on Tuesday morning at the Toyota
Center to take seventh place at the NWAACC basketball championships. It
was CBC’s third straight win after losing in the first round.
Last year’s champions posted their highest score of the tournament while putting the defensive wraps on the Lakers.
SWOCC
post Quynne Eharis continued her outstanding tournament with 20 points
and 13 rebounds. But take away her 8-for-14 shooting performance, and
the rest of the team drops to 16-for-47 (34 percent).
Yenney
wasn’t the only sharpshooter for CBC (17-13). Sierra Higheagle was
7-for-9 on her way to 15 points. Hannah Depew scored 17, and Alicia
Jones continued her rebounding magic with 10 more coming off
back-to-back 17-board performances. Additionally, Kellie Ross overcame a
rough shooting day (1-for-10) to dole out seven assists.
Maricela Aguilera added 15 points for SWOCC (17-13), but no other Lakers player topped six points.
