What is the nuclear industry job outlook?

Nuclear energy contributes 20 percent of the U.S. energy needs. With the increase usage of iPhones, iPads, flat panel TVs, and other emerging technologies the need for electricity increases. Consequently, nuclear energy will remain viable as well as the workforce needed to sustain the industry.
- Nuclear Power Plants and Facilities- Both Local and National
Local nuclear industry consists of the nuclear power plant, Columbia Generating Station, owned and operated by Energy Northwest. In addition, the vitrification plant and AREVA are a sampling of employers of nuclear workers. Nationally, there are 104 nuclear reactors located throughout the United States as well as nuclear materials facilities providing job opportunities.
- Retirement Among Existing Workforce
Forty (40) percent will be eligible to retire during the next 3-5 years.
